Short, honest answers about plans, calls, safety and your account.

getting started.

Yes. Replying to messages and correcting people are unlimited for everyone. On the free plan you can start 5 new chats and use 20 translations a day. Pro removes those limits and adds a few extras, and the yearly plan starts with a free week.

On iPhone, Android and in your browser. It's the same app everywhere.

You only see people who speak the language you're learning and are learning the language you speak. That way every conversation is useful for both of you, not a favour one person does for the other.

No. Not a dating app. Just people who want to practise. You can block or report anyone from the chat.

plans and pro.

Yes, three ways. Invite friends: each one who joins with your link and starts talking gets a week of Pro, and so do you, up to 12 weeks a year. Keep a streak: 7 days gives you a week, 100 days a month, 365 days 3 months. Or type a gift code on the plans screen in the app. Free Pro never renews and never charges you. More on the plans page.

calls and safety.

Yes, on iPhone and in the web app: use the call button at the top of a chat for a voice or video call. You can call someone once they have sent you 5 messages, calls are free on every plan, and nothing is recorded. Calls are coming to the Android app. Rather not be called? Turn off Allow calls in Settings → Privacy.

Yes. The whole app is open source on GitHub, so anyone can see exactly how it works and what it stores. You can report or block anyone from inside the app, reports are reviewed by our moderation team — reachable at hi@langx.io — and you need to be 16 or older to join.

echo and streaks.

Echo is where you keep the sentences you want to remember. Hold any message in a chat and choose Add to Echo. It comes back tomorrow, then in three days, then in a week. Remember it and the next wait is longer; forget it and it comes back sooner. There are ready-made packs of words too, for the language you are learning.

One message a day keeps your streak alive. Miss a day and a streak freeze, bought with the tokens you earn by talking and teaching, covers it. Keep going and the streak earns you Pro: a week at 7 days, a month at 100 and 3 months at 365.

tokens and copilot.

Points you earn by chatting and by correcting other people. You spend them inside the app on a streak freeze or on frames and titles for your profile. They aren't money: you can't buy, sell or trade them, and they never unlock a paid plan. Every rule is on the tokens page, and the longer write-up is at token.langx.io.

An AI helper inside a chat with a real person, in the app now as a beta on Free and Pro. It has four helps, and each waits for your tap: Check my sentence, Say it in Spanish (or whichever language you are learning), Explain and Reply ideas. The person you are talking to sees none of its answers, and nothing is sent unless you send it yourself. When you ask, the text goes to Anthropic, the company that runs the AI model; for Explain and Reply ideas that includes the other person's words, and a consent sheet tells you so before the first answer. You can turn Copilot off in Settings and report any answer. Every plan has a daily allowance, Pro's is larger, and the app shows how many answers you have left. The longer write-up is at copilot.langx.io.

your account.

Sign up again with the same email. Your username is saved for you and your tokens carry over. Everything that changed is on the welcome back page.

Use the app and tell people about it. If you like code or writing, the good first issues on GitHub are a nice place to start, and the Discord is where everyone talks.

langx and other apps.

Yes — think of it as Duolingo made of real people. Duolingo teaches with lessons and games, but there is no one on it to have a conversation with. On LangX the practice is a conversation with a native speaker who is learning your language, and they can correct you as you go. Plenty of people use both. See the social alternative to Duolingo and the full LangX vs Duolingo comparison.

All three connect you with native speakers. LangX matches in both directions, keeps corrections unlimited on every plan, shows no ads and is open source; Tandem and HelloTalk have far bigger communities, and their calls work in the phone apps, where LangX's are on iPhone and the web for now. Every comparison, side by side.

Prices, limits and trials are on the plans page, with their own questions.
