You only see people whose languages fit yours in both directions — they speak what you are learning, and they are learning what you speak.
Talk with people who speak the language you are learning — and are learning the language you speak.
100% Open Source Alternative to Tandem!
No lessons and no homework — just real conversations with someone who needs exactly what you can offer. You correct their sentences, they correct yours.
Free to use. Always. Reply to every message you get, with no limits, and correct as many as you like. LangX Pro adds filters, unlimited translation, and the ability to start as many new conversations as you want; Pro+ adds LangX Copilot and Nearby on top.
The app and the API are open source, and you can host your own.
Discover features designed to boost your language learning.
You only see people whose languages fit yours in both directions — they speak what you are learning, and they are learning what you speak.
Tap any message to suggest a better way to say it. Corrections are unlimited on every plan — teaching someone is the point of the product, not a feature to ration.
Built into the chat, so you never leave the conversation to look something up. 20 a day on the free plan, unlimited on Pro.
Keep a daily streak, earn LangX Tokens for talking and for teaching, and see where you land on the weekly, monthly, yearly and all-time boards.
Send voice messages to practise pronunciation, and photos to show what you are talking about.
Narrow discovery by gender, country, age and level to find the partners who actually fit how you want to practise. Pro+ adds Nearby, which sorts by distance if you switch location sharing on.
See your streak, your tokens and how your week is going, straight from your profile.
Download everything we hold about you, or delete your account from inside the app. No advertising identifiers and no third-party analytics SDK.
Switch to night mode for a more comfortable reading experience in low light environments.
The app and the API are open source under BSD-3, and you can host your own instance. Join our developer community and contribute to our codebase.
Reply to every message you get with no limits, and correct as many as you like. On the free plan you can start 5 new conversations a day.
Private feedback while you practise with a real person — only you see it. The feature Pro+ is for, and not in the first release.
An in-app point you earn by practising and by teaching. Not a cryptocurrency.
Correcting someone is worth five messages. That weighting is deliberate: teaching is the behaviour worth paying for.
A day counts when you actually do something — send a message or write a correction. Opening the app does not.
That is the complete list, and it is complete on purpose.
The last one is the load-bearing one: if tokens could buy a Pro feature, farming tokens would become a substitute for subscribing, and the subscription is what funds the app.
These are the current values and they can change — the economy is new and the right numbers can only be found with real activity. More detail at token.langx.io.

LangX v2: what changes, and why
v2 is a ground-up rebuild. It also breaks two promises v1 made in public, and we would rather explain that here than let you find it in a Terms diff.
Addressing Allegations and Clarifying Our Commitment
Recently, there have been allegations on Reddit suggesting that LangX is involved in fraudulent activities, specifically labeling us as a crypto scam. As a community-driven, open-source platform, we prioritize transparency and integrity. We want to address these concerns openly and provide clarity on our operations.

Mastering a New Language - An Introvert's Guide
Learning a language as an introvert can be challenging, mainly due to the fact that one of the best methods for language acquisition is to interact with natives and those who are fluent in the language. However, due to that not being an option for some, in this article, we will be talking about how you can learn a language, without even leaving the house.

Free to use, always. You can reply to every message you receive with no limits, and write as many corrections as you like — neither is capped on any plan. On the free plan you can start 5 new conversations and use 20 translations per rolling 24 hours.
LangX Pro is a paid subscription that removes those limits and adds discovery filters, seeing who viewed your profile, and incognito browsing. LangX Pro+ adds LangX Copilot and the Nearby sort on top of that.
LangX Pro and Pro+ subscriptions. That is the whole model: no ads, no advertising identifiers, no third-party analytics SDK, and no selling anyone's data.
Two things are deliberately not behind the paywall. Replying to messages is unlimited, because a language exchange where you cannot answer someone is not a language exchange. And writing corrections is unlimited on every plan — rate-limiting the free side would shrink what a paying user receives just as much as what a free user gives.
The code stays open source under BSD-3 and you can run your own instance. We also accept sponsors on GitHub Sponsors.
Two things. Matching runs in both directions, so every conversation has something in it for both people rather than one of you doing a favour. And corrections are unlimited for everyone — the part of the product that actually teaches is the part we refuse to ration.
On top of that: the app and the API are open source, you can host your own instance, and we collect no advertising identifiers.
Private feedback while you practise with a real person. You open it inside a chat room and it comments on your own messages — only you can see those messages.
It is not in the first release of v2. It is planned for a later one, and it is the feature LangX Pro+ exists for. We are naming the timing plainly because this feature has been described as "coming soon" for a long time.
LangX Token is an in-app point. You earn it by practising and by teaching, and you spend it inside the app on a streak freeze or on cosmetic frames and titles. That is the entire definition.
It cannot be bought, sold, traded, staked or withdrawn, it is not on a blockchain, and it never will be. Correcting someone else's sentence is worth more than sending a message — that weighting is deliberate.

No, and this one is worth explaining rather than just stating. If tokens could buy a Pro feature, farming tokens would become a substitute for subscribing — and the subscription is the thing that funds the app. Keeping the two economies separate is what lets corrections and replies stay unlimited for everyone.
Your username is reserved for you and your token balance carries over. You do need to sign up again with the same email address: the old password hashes could not be migrated.
The full story, including how balances are converted and what changed about pricing, is on the welcome back page.
We implore anyone to contribute, whether it's just a single image, down to a single line of code/text. You can read more here on how you can add your contribution.
Reporting and blocking are built into the app, and reports go to a moderation queue. Beyond that we have a team of contributors who help wherever possible. If you are interested in taking on a moderator role as a contributor or volunteer, please reach out.
We'll definitely add sign languages to the study languages section during the registration process. Additionally, we have a contributor who works as an accessibility manager and can help with the following issues. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention again :)

Regarding developing standards like WCAG with the W3C: Link.
Yes. Badges are not in v2's first release and are planned to return, LangX Copilot is a later release, and there is more after that. We would rather list what is missing than let the site advertise something the app does not do.
